Douze V2 rain cover: 600 or 800 – and how to add lighting to the box
shares
With the Douze V2, almost everything is modular – and that is exactly why questions quickly arise regarding the rain cover. Are you riding the short 600 mm front frame or the long 800 mm version? Which canopy fits it? And how do you get light into the box under the closed cover?
The good news: Once you know the length of your front frame, things become much easier. Douze offers matching Soft Boxes and canopies for the V2 in both 600 mm and 800 mm. The standard bike lighting takes care of the road. For the interior under the cover, a dedicated light source makes sense.
Douze V2: 600 or 800 – what does that even mean?
The V2 is one of the most modular cargo bikes from Douze. For the front frame, you can choose between 600 mm and 800 mm. It is precisely this length that determines which box and which rain cover fit your bike.
The short 600 version is more compact. The 800 version offers more space in front of the handlebars and is particularly suitable if you regularly ride with children or a lot of luggage.
For families, options include the Soft Box V2 600 and the Soft Box V2 800. Each comes with its own dedicated canopy. You should therefore not just order any V2 cover, but always pay attention to the length of your front frame.
Which rain cover fits the Douze V2?
Canopy Soft Box V2 600
The Canopy Soft Box V2 600 is designed for the compact 600 mm front frame. Douze describes it as a windproof and waterproof weather protection with large transparent windows and side openings for entry and ventilation.
So, if you are riding a V2 with a short front and a Soft Box 600, you need this 600 canopy.
Canopy Soft Box V2 800
For the long front frame, there is the Canopy Soft Box V2 800. It is larger, offers more interior space, and is designed for daily family use with two children.
The same applies here: an 800 mm frame and 800 Soft Box go together with the matching 800 canopy.
The simple rule: 600 front frame = 600 cover. 800 front frame = 800 cover.
What lighting does the Douze V2 have from the factory?
On the current V2, the front and rear lights are connected to the motor battery. Douze lists the standard lighting as Busch & Müller Lumotec at the front and Toplight Small at the rear.
That is exactly how it is intended: The front light illuminates the path in front of you, and the rear light makes the bike visible from behind.
What this lighting does not do is illuminate the area under the canopy. Especially with a closed rain cover, the inside of the box quickly remains in the shadows when it is dark.
Why light under the Douze canopy is practical for everyday use
If you use your V2 with children, you usually don't need light for spectacular night rides, but rather for very normal situations:
- You want to check in the morning if the harness is buckled correctly.
- A glove or a water bottle is lying somewhere at the bottom of the box.
- You want to see where bags or jackets are when getting in.
- You are unloading groceries in the evening.
- You want to see at a quick glance what is happening under the cover.
A stronger front light will hardly help you with any of this. It shines forward onto the road – and that is exactly what it is supposed to do.
The interior lighting takes on a different task: It brings light into the space under the rain cover.
CargoGLOW for the Douze V2
CargoGLOW is available from us specifically for the Douze V2. In the shop, simply select the “Douze V2” version and then choose whether you want it with or without a dimmer.
Our CargoGLOW interior lighting is attached to the inside of the rain cover's frame. The LED strip is flexible, waterproof, and produces neutral light at 4000 K. An integrated diffuser distributes the light evenly and ensures it does not cause glare.
CargoGLOW is powered via a standard USB connection from a 5V power bank. This means you do not need to tamper with the electronics of your V2.
With the Douze V2 version, you receive a 1-meter long CargoGLOW LED strip and five matching clips. If you choose the version with a dimmer, a dimmer and a wireless remote control are included.

What additional benefits does CargoGLOW provide for the Douze V2?
The first advantage is obvious: You can see significantly more in the box. Children, straps, bags, and luggage no longer disappear into the dark.
The second advantage is visible from the outside. Instead of just single points of light at the front and rear, a larger area is illuminated under the cover. This makes your cargo bike better perceived as a large vehicle in the dark. You are seen more easily, which further increases your safety.
Of course, CargoGLOW does not replace regular bike lighting. The front and rear lights remain necessary for road traffic.
600 or 800: Does the longer version also need more interior light?
The 800 canopy has more interior space than the 600. An even distribution of light is particularly pleasant there because children, bags, and luggage are spread over a larger area.
Crucially, however, it is not that the 800 version needs "more watts." It is more important that the light does not just come from one small, point-like lamp, but is distributed over a longer area.
This is precisely why an LED strip under the cover works better for everyday use than a small lamp that only lights up a single spot.
With or without a dimmer?
Without a dimmer
If you mainly need the light for buckling up, getting in, searching, or unloading, the standard version is straightforward: connect the power bank, turn on the light, and you're done.
With dimmer and remote control
If children regularly ride along in the dark, the dimmable version is more flexible. It can be brighter when getting in, and you can reduce the light during the ride. The wireless remote control is included with this version.
Which version is better depends less on whether you ride a 600 or an 800, but rather on how you use the bike.
Why not just a small battery-powered lamp?
Of course, you can also hang a small battery-powered light in the box. That is often enough for occasional use. In everyday life, however, the same questions quickly arise: Where do you attach it? Does it stay in place on bumpy roads? Does it glare? Does it only light up one spot or actually illuminate the interior?

Douze V2 in autumn and winter
Especially during the dark season, the canopy often remains mounted permanently. In that case, a simple check is worth it:
- Check front and rear lights: They are the foundation for any ride in the dark.
- Keep the canopy windows clean: This lets in as much ambient light as possible and keeps the view outside clear.
- Illuminate the interior separately: So that you can recognize children, straps, and luggage even in low light.
- Stow the power bank neatly: The cable should be routed cleanly and not hang loosely in the box.

FAQ: Douze V2 rain cover and interior lighting
Which rain cover do I need for my Douze V2?

No. Our standard CargoGLOW version is powered by a 5V USB power bank. You do not need to tamper with your V2’s lighting or drive system.

The most important points about the Douze V2 in brief
With the Douze V2, you should first know whether you are riding the 600 or 800 front frame. After that, the cover question is quickly resolved. The standard lighting takes care of the road, the canopy takes care of the weather protection – and CargoGLOW brings light into the interior.
That is how three individual components turn into a sensible setup for dark autumn and winter rides.
