Triobike Hafnia: rain cover, lighting, and interior box light

Do you ride a Triobike Hafnia with a canopy and find yourself out and about in autumn and winter? Then you probably know the feeling: the lights work on the outside, the road is visible – but the box stays quite dark under the canopy.

This is exactly why it is worth distinguishing between two things when it comes to the Hafnia: exterior lighting for road traffic and interior lighting for children, seat belts, and luggage. Both serve different purposes. In this article, we will show you what the Hafnia comes with and how our CargoGLOW interior lighting complements the setup.

What lighting does the Triobike Hafnia have from the factory?

Triobike equips the current Hafnia with integrated front and rear lights. Both are connected to the e-drive battery and can be operated via the control unit on the handlebars.

This covers the most important task of bicycle lighting: the front light illuminates the path ahead, and the rear light makes the bike visible from behind.

What this lighting does not cover is the interior of the large transport box. That is not its purpose. Especially with the canopy installed, the Hafnia creates a separate sheltered area that street lighting and headlights can only reach to a limited extent.

The Hafnia canopy protects against the weather – but doesn't make the box brighter

As a family bike, the Hafnia is designed with plenty of space and, according to Triobike, can carry up to four children. The matching canopy protects children and luggage from wind and rain. It has a window in the back, the sides can be opened, and the canopy can be removed completely in good weather.

In winter, however, it often remains permanently installed. And that is exactly when the open box becomes a shielded interior. During the day, this is not a big issue. It’s a different story early in the morning in the dark or in the late afternoon.

The canopy keeps the weather out. Interior lighting brings light in.

Why light in the Hafnia box is practical in everyday life

With children, the need usually arises not during a long night ride, but in quite normal everyday situations:

  • In the morning, you want to see if all the belts are fastened correctly.
  • A child is looking for gloves, a hat, or a water bottle.
  • You want to quickly see where bags or toys are when getting in.
  • In the evening, you are unloading groceries from a dark box.
  • You want to see better what is happening under the canopy with a quick glance.

A stronger front light hardly helps with any of this. It shines forward onto the road – not backward into the box.

Exterior light and interior light serve two different tasks

Lighting Task What it does not replace
Front light Illuminates the road ahead of the bike Light inside the box
Rear light Makes the bike visible from the rear Interior lighting
CargoGLOW Illuminates the area under the canopy Mandatory bicycle lighting

For the Hafnia, the combination makes perfect sense: on the outside, the standard lighting does its job. On the inside, CargoGLOW ensures that you have a better view of children and luggage.

Our CargoGLOW interior lighting for the Triobike Hafnia

CargoGLOW is available from us specifically for the Triobike Hafnia. In the shop, simply select the "Triobike Hafnia" version and then decide whether you want it with or without a dimmer.

For this version, you will receive a 1-meter-long CargoGLOW LED strip with five matching clips. The strip is attached to the inside of the rain canopy frame.

The light is 4000 K, which means it is neutral white. The integrated diffuser distributes the light evenly and ensures it is glare-free. The strip is flexible and waterproof.

CargoGLOW is powered via a standard USB connection from a 5V power bank. You therefore do not need to touch the Hafnia's electrical system.

The effect is quickly noticeable in everyday life: the box becomes brighter over a large area and the light under the canopy is much easier to perceive from the outside in the dark. This makes you more visible and additionally increases your safety.

CargoGLOW with or without a dimmer?

Both versions bring light into the box. The only difference is how flexibly you want to adjust the brightness.

Without dimmer

If you mainly need the light for getting in, buckling up, searching for items, or unloading, the standard version is straightforward: plug in the power bank, light on, done.

With dimmer and remote control

If children regularly ride along in the dark, the dimmable version is more comfortable. You can have brighter light when buckling up and reduce the brightness while driving. The wireless remote control is included with this version.

If a simple on and off is enough for you, choose the standard version. If you want to change the brightness according to the situation, the version with a dimmer is the better choice.

Large box, large canopy: Why the Hafnia benefits from area lighting

The Hafnia is not a small cargo bike. Triobike specifies an external length of around 101 cm and a width of 68 cm for the box. Add to that the large canopy for family use.

This is precisely why a single small lamp is often less practical in such an interior. It illuminates one spot, while the rest remains significantly darker.

CargoGLOW, on the other hand, distributes the light over a longer area on the canopy. This is particularly pleasant if several children are riding along or if the box is full of bags, jackets, and groceries at the same time.

Does the Triobike Hafnia already have interior lighting?

On the current Hafnia product page, Triobike lists the integrated front and rear lights as standard equipment. The canopy is also described in detail. Integrated lighting for the interior of the box is not listed there.

So if you specifically want light under the canopy, you need an additional solution.

Why not just a small battery-powered lamp?

Of course, that works. A small battery-powered light might be enough for occasional use. But if you use your Hafnia daily, the usual questions quickly arise: Where do you attach it? Does it stay in place on bumpy roads? Does it glare directly into a child's eyes? Does it illuminate only a small area or the entire box?

Triobike Hafnia in autumn and winter

Especially in the dark season, it pays to look at the bike as a complete system:

  1. Check front and rear lights: They are the basis for every ride in the dark.
  2. Keep the canopy clean: Clean windows help you and the children see outside.
  3. Light the interior separately: This way you can recognize seat belts, children, and luggage even in low ambient light.
  4. Stow the power bank properly: The cable should not hang loosely in the box.

More visibility does not mean: replacing bicycle lighting

CargoGLOW makes the illuminated interior under the canopy more perceptible from the outside. That is an additional benefit – but of course, CargoGLOW does not replace either the front or rear light.
